Ukraine Community Builders - BLOCK 2: Rebuilding with care - Inclusion of War-Affected Youth with Special Needs

The second block of the Ukraine Community Builders programme, Rebuilding with care – Inclusion of War-Affected Youth with Special Needs, was held on 28–30 June 2026 in Ukraine.

Following a five-day onsite module in Ukraine last April, participants gathered for the second block of the programme to address key topics on inclusion and accessibility for war-affected young people with special needs in the context of Ukraine’s recovery.

Participants reflected on barrier-free communication, starting from Ukraine’s Barrier-Free Space Strategy 2030, discussed European countries’ path to inclusion, and learned about support methods for people with different accessibility needs. By working in groups, they tested the physical and information accessibility of urban spaces and played a simulation game exploring ways to influence the development of accessibility within communities. Drawing on these results, they developed an action plan to improve the city’s accessibility, with ideas applicable in their own community.
